RISK INFORMATION
The information on this website is general in nature and is not a substitute for individual professional medical examination, investigation and advice.
Modern surgery and anaesthesia has a high safety profile. However, there is a level of risk involved in all surgery and anaesthesia. The risks relate to a number of factors such as the type of operation, the type of anaesthetic, the age and general health of the patient and the presence or absence of medical conditions.
Generally, the risks which commonly attach to all procedures are the risks of infection, bleeding, bruising. Inadvertent damage may occur to organs or tissues, particularly if there have been previous operations. Patients may develop heart attacks, blood clots, lung infections or have allergies to drugs. Death can occur.
Some operations have additional risks that are specific to the particular operation or individual. These are discussed at consultation prior to surgery.
